Stop Hiring Leaky Buckets: How to Fill the Talent Pool Without Watching It Drain, Jason Carey, MHRM, Regional Manager for The Arnold Group

Employers are working hard to attract candidates, fill open roles, and keep operations moving, but many are also seeing those efforts drain away through turnover, poor fit, unclear expectations, attendance challenges, wage pressure, onboarding gaps, and changing employee expectations.

This presentation will take a practical look at both sides of the talent equation: how employers can better fill the bucket through stronger recruiting strategies, and how they can reduce the leaks by improving communication, hiring fit, onboarding, culture, and retention practices. The goal is to provide real-world ideas Kansas employers can use to attract better candidates, make stronger hiring decisions, and keep more of the people they work so hard to find.

    Learning Objectives:

    1) Identify current recruiting and retention challenges impacting Kansas employers, including candidate expectations, wage pressures, skills gaps, and workforce reliability.

    2) Recognize how recruiting practices, job expectations, candidate communication, and hiring decisions can either support retention or contribute to turnover.

    3) Apply practical strategies to improve the full employee lifecycle, from attracting candidates and setting expectations to onboarding, engagement, and reducing preventable turnover.
